So if I am looking at my engine from the front of my car (2000 Accent GL) how do I tell if my plug wires are connected to the right places? thanks..

If the car is stock, then the wires should be numbered consecutively, just make sure the wire with the smallest length (Which I think is 4) is on the right and the wire with the longest legnth (which I think is 1) is on the left. Also make sure that 2 and 3 are in between 1 and 4 in that order...

Thanks for your response, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a little more info. Below is a diagram facing the engine where the plugs go into the engine (numbers), on the right of the engine is the ignition coil(x's), If the plugs are numbered as below then which one connects where on the distributer?.

1 2 3 4

x?
x?
x?
x?

Thanks for your help in this matter...

the firing order is 1,3,4,2, (no. 1 being to your left as you face the engine) the distributor should be marked (with at least #1) then attach the other three wires observing the firing order

Ok, so let me get this straight......

Facing the engine the plugs line up like this from left to right:

1 3 4 2

And if I look on the ignition coil it should be labled?
Like:
1
2
3
4

yes, but the distributor (not the coil) may not be numberd 1,2,3,4, but there should be a #1 stamped on it, put the longest lead from that terminal to number 1 spark plug (furthest left) then the next terminal around put a lead to number 3 spark plug, the next terminal to number 4 and the next to number 2. (if there is no number (or numbers) marked on the distributor come back to us for further advice

The ignition coils do have numbers on them and for my car to run right it goes like this:

Facing the engine and numbering the plugs left to right
1 2 3 4

The ignition coil wires would go like this from top to bottom

1
4
3
2

Tried numbering from left to right 1 3 4 2 and connect to appropriately labled coil locations but car ran like crap and CEL came on....

I had just replaced plugs and wires the other day and car runs great now..thanks to all for your time......
