OBD2 Scan - ELM327

HI

is it safe to do a fault scan using a ELM327 obd scanner even if the check light is not on.

i did a scan for fault codes even thou the checklight is off and after removing the device, my engine sound had changed and it is now noisy when AC is on.

This was never an issue, it just began after i plugged the ELM327 bluetooth adapter. I used the android TORQUE application for scanning the fault codes. Please help...


Also i am unsure on how to use the device? do we turn the engine on and do a scan or just have the engine in ignition mode and then do a scan?

Also is it safe to do a fault scan even if engine check light is off? do we have to still erase codes on ecu even when there was no faults found?

Yes it is safe, this device does nothing to modify your engine just reads data coming from it. I typically plug in elm327 device then start engine and start torque app after car is running then scan.

I looked at your recent posts that mentioned changing the air filter and cabin filter and taking some things apart. I think your noise comes from this not the code reader device.

so is it okay to also disconnect the adapter while the car is running?

why is it that in the torque application, in the IM Readyness since dtc clear screen, all items are shown as not applicable.

I have not used that app a lot but the developer has a forum. Maybe somebody there would know.

I have a ELM327 obd scanner as well and does a great job on my Kia as well my Hyundai. Blue tooth to the smartphone (Torque). Someguy is right. All it does is read data and nothing else......But is a great little tool for the price.

Do you have the full version? If not, THAT is the problem - some items are disabled in the trial version (which is really meant for two things: to check and see if it works with your car without costing you anything - and the developer "giving back" to the community a bit with a quick-N-easy app so someone could read fault codes on their vehicle)

Go ahead and "buy up" - it's not expensive.
