It's good this is brought up, I had mine fail going down a hill last winter. Not fun at all when you have passengers to keep safe. The lines were actually shot in several places, and finally failed with a big burst that leaked all my brake fluid within hours.
Doing them yourself is a pain, and it's dirty work, but its actually very inexpensive, especially vs. a shop. If you go to a reasonable auto parts you should be able to get bulk brake line and the couplings. Then all you need is a Double Flare Kit (they usually can do bubble flares too when needed), and a Tubing Bender (little hand ones). You might need some vice grips, along with necessary wrenches/sockets, to remove old stubborn/corroded couplings.
From there it's all simple fabrication, using care to not kink the lines of course. Theres lots of vids and info on this part.
Remember: Unplug the fuel pump, and run the engine to suck the fuel out first. Then unplug the battery before you start, and get ready to leak some gas. You'll also have to remove the gas tank if you want to run the full brake line to the rear passenger wheel (if you don't want to splice in), so drive it till it's real empty (or have fun moving it around with sloshing gas).
