Engine Swap 1.5 To A 1.6

I have a 2001 Accent , blown head gasket cracked head. Its 1.5 L Can I swap in a 1.6 motor without having to do any modifications. Can has 5 sp manual transmission. If possible do iI need to swap out the ECU , any wiring issues? Thanks Dave

I just got done switching a sohc (single over head cam) 1.5L engine out of my 99 hyundai accent.I put a 2001 dohc (dual over head cam)1.6L engine in.I had to do a lot of wiring but it runs fine. I dont think you will have as many problems as me as long as the motors are the same generation.

This is basically a drop in swap, i finnished it in a weekend on my g/f's 01, the only part i had to mod was a coolant temp sensor wire i had to extend, its probly one of the simplest swaps ever

Did you have to change the ECU? My daughters 2003 Accent 1.5l SOHC just seized and am wondering if I can swap the engine for a 1.6l DOHC. What other things do I need to be aware of?

How did you change your 1.5 MAF sensor to work with the 1.6 MAP sensor?

I did a similar swap. I have an 2001 Accent that came with a 1.5L but now has a 1.6L. Funny thing is, I bought a manual transaxle for a 1.5L and hook it up to the 1.6L engine. I have to throttle all the way up in order to shift now. Gears would slap and grind. Sometimes I couldn't even shift into gear. I thought maybe I put the new clutch in backwards, so I took it apart and it was in the right way. Clutch shows signs of uneven wear, and the teeth on the flywheel were scarred. Does anyone know what went wrong? It is a used transaxle so maybe its just bad. I may make a post of it.

If the teeth on the flywheel are bad then there is an issue with your starter.

Yeah, it might be a separate problem. I'm still reading up on it right now and my next suspect is the speed sensor since the gear ratios between the 1.5 transaxle and 1.6 transaxle differ slightly.
