Default 1996 Missing Alternator Bolt

Hey all first time lurker now first time poster. Anyway...

I've called a few places and surfed the net trying to find the size of the lower alternator bolt in my Accent. Went to do a belt replacement and the bolt that goes in under the alternator is missing. I haven't had the car long and my mechanical knowledge is fairly limited. I think it's supposed to be 12mm but I'm not sure on the length or anything else so I can buy a replacement. I checked the online service manual sticky and couldn't find the size. Thanks for your help.

Your referring to the Alternator Anchor bolt right?

I have a 97' X3 L model and I've had to change it out like one time.

I currently have this set up:

Bolt

Shop The Hillman Group 1/2"-20 x 4" Zinc Plated Standard (SAE) Hex Bolt at Lowes.com

Nut

Shop The Hillman Group 2-Count 1/2"-20 Zinc Plated Standard (SAE) Hex Nuts at Lowes.com

Lock Nut Washer It says it comes in a 4 count pack but you should be able to get just one if the associate is nice enough to do that.

Shop The Hillman Group 4-Count 1/2-in Standard (SAE) Split Lock Washers at Lowes.com

Washer It says it comes in a 4 count pack but you should be able to get just one if the associate is nice enough to do that.

Shop The Hillman Group 4-Count 1/2-in x 1-in Zinc Plated Standard (SAE) Flat Washer at Lowes.com

Hope this helps!!!

If you want to "keep it metric" Lowe's has those as well. Note that most-everything they carry is Metric 8.8 or lower. Sufficient for an alternator bolt - but they should be avoided for "critical" items like brake or suspension bolts.

Its funny cause I can go and use a 10mm socket and remove just about anything minor on my accent lol.

I felt more comfortable using SAE cause it was easier at the time, and it was less confusing trying to pick the proper one.

No problem with that - I was merely pointing-out that they had metric, and the grade (for anyone ELSE that may be missing particular fasteners).
