I am installing a Pioneer Avic D3 in my 2008 Sonata Limited. I purchased the Scosche HY05B for the harness. Everything looks good with one exception. The hmaservice.com web site shows the Steering Wheel Control on Pin 18 and the SWC Ground on Pin 19 for radio V490S(amp and subwoofer w/ XM). The Scoshe adapter has the two wires brown on pin 19 and Black on Pin 18. I have counted and compared photos a million times so I'm sure I'm not looking at it backwards. Anyone else run into this. Should I connect the PAC-SWI-PS to the black and just go ahead and ground out the brown wire? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. I thought about not conencting either and to test to see which one goes to ground with my tester. I don't do this type of stuff very often and am basically looking for firsthand knowledge or confirmation that my test scenario shouls work.

Thanks,

Pin 19 (it's green at the factory plug) needs to be grounded.

I'm finishing up on my AVIC-D3. Are you connecting the reverse wire? Pioneer doesn't tell you, but it's a POSITIVE trigger and the reverse light on our Sonatas is a NEGATIVE trigger. I'm installing a relay to make it work.

Lots of issues to deal with ...

I finally got to install the D3 today. Everything went pretty uneventfully thanks to taking the time to correctly wire up the harness on the kitchen table prior to going out to the car. Indeed the Scosche HY05B harness had pins 18 and 19 reversed. 18 should be BROWN and not BLACK and 19 should be BLACK and not BROWN. You are correct that 19 should be Grounded. Thanks Scosche for not returning any promised call backs while you "researched it". Called several times and got a different answer from each tech. That's reassuring...

I am having a tough time getting the crimp connectors to make contact on the pink VSS wire and gaining access to the OBDII connector under the driver side dash. I am still awaiting the delivery of my PAC-SWI-PS SWController. Weather permitting, I will try to add the 12 disc CD changer and XM Navtraffic on Saturday.

Man, the reverse wire requiring a RELAY news I could have lived without. Thanks for letting me know.

I believe the following will work for us.

Pin 87 - Violet/White Wire to D3
Pin 86 & 30 - 12 volt fused supply wire
Pin 85 - a wire tapped in to the car's reverse wire

Almost forgot, how did you identify the reverse wire in the DKP? I can't get mine off or open. What's the secret?

OBD connector: Pry off the cover at the very end of the driver's dashboard; you have to open the door all the way to see it.

Once the cover is removed you can see the cable going into the OBD socket; it's held in by 2 phillips screws, one at each end. You have to reach under the trim piece and point your screwdriver backwards to remove it. The VSS wire is, indeed, yellow, but there are THREE yellow wires. I can snap a closeup picture if you need it. BTW, the AVIC needs a VSS wire, not a tach wire.

Reverse wire: it's blue with one silver stripe, but there are several in there. It's the thickest one and it's NOT the blue/silver that's part of the twisted pair. I pulled the reverse lamp then made a looooooong wire from the back of the vehicle. The other end went to my tester; got it in one.

You're right about the relay.

You can get to the reverse wire easier by removing the driver's threshold "Sonata" trimpiece; there's a wire bundle under there that you can get to by carefully slitting the electrician's tape holding it together.

Slide a putty knife under the threshold trim to find the clips. Pry it up with a panel tool; I think there are 4-5 clips. I used a small knife to slit the tape about 12" and find the wire. You can confirm it's the reverse wire by turning the key to the ignition position (don't start the engine) then mash down on the brake and put it in Reverse. Make sure your reverse lamps are on. Your tester should go from +12 to zero if you have the right wire.

I poked a thick wire under the lip of the DKP and used it to pull the reverse wire thru then retaped over the cable where I slit. Don't forget to use a zip tie over the free end of the electrician's tape; it prevents the tape from unravelling.

Excellent info Dennis. Thanks a million. I just found a reference to polarity on PG 125. If I am reading it correctly, you can set the unit to work with negative polarity reverse signal. Take a look see, we may be able to get away from having to wire in the relay. I'm going to try it and let you know.

Dennis,

I just finished up my install and didn't have to change the polarity setting in the HU, use a relay or anything. It just worked. Only downside was that it drizzled right after the installation and the camera is already fogged up! Boyo VT400. I'm not happy. Not sure how to get the moisture out. Hoping it will go away pn a warm day but I'm sure it will return...

Thanks; I'll check out pg 125.

Mine showed it was in reverse at all times when I went into the "diagnostic" screen.

I bought a dash bezel from Dreamka4u but I haven't got it adapted yet. Mine's still a work in progress. I think I know where I'm going to mount the Sirius and iPod adapter.

I put the iPod cable into the tiny coin box to the left of the steering wheel but it still needs work; the iPod fits but the cable doesn't. Where's my Dremel?

The Sirius goes in the center console box, preferably laying down in the smaller compartment. The dock
gives me total control of the Sirius so I don't need to access it.

I'd be willing to bet that if you change the polarity setting like on page 125, the problem goes away. I installed my XM in the glove box. It doesn't take up much space and the elastic on the back of the glove box holds it in place nicely. I installed the 12 disc changer vertically on the far rt. side of the trunk. All is complete with the exception fo the SWI-PS which is waiting at my post office for me to pick up in the AM. I will try to get some pics to post in the next few days. I'm very pleased other than the camera condensation. I have contacted vendor to see what they are willing to do in regards to replacement. Hopefully, it was just a bad one of the assembly line and not indicative of the overall model/manufacturer.

I looked it up today and it might just work ... problem is I didn't connect a camera so the Camera button on the System screen might be grayed out. I didn't think of the band on the back of the glove box ... hmmmmmmm
