All, I have an 06 Sonata LX (sunroof and premium speaker system) and decided to pull the door panel off to look at possibly replacing the front speakers with some Focals. Looks like the speaker housing is rivetted unto the door.

1) How do I best remove it?
2) Will I be able to use the black speaker housing or will I have to replace that when I change out the speakers?

Drill out the 3/16" pop rivet heads and pry the black plastic speaker assembly out of the door. This leaves the rivet body sticking out; it must be removed. The only way I know to do this is with a Dremel and cutting wheel.

No. Scosche sells adapter rings for the Hyundai.

Thx for the quick reply. I just went to Scosche and only found the dash kits...do you have a part number for the adapter rings? Thanks in advance!

Call them; their web site ain't the most helpful. Crutchfield is also a good source for both info and parts.

I went to Sound Advice, a small chain. They took the black mold from the Sonata speakers and made a wood mold for all four doors to install the new speakers. Very high quality work, and only cost $130 total... The wood mold also helps create a better sound.

I could swear that I posted this earlier today, but what I did was to drill out the rivets, then gently pried them from the holes in the door panel.

I ended up using the black plastic housing and cutting out the speaker, although I would recommend using an adaptor.

Securing the adaptor to the door is easy, just go to your local hardware store and get some M10x125 bolts and nuts, long enough to go through the adaptor and through the door panel.
Put the bolts through and thread on the nuts, then install your speaker into the adaptor and you should be in business.

The speaker adapter you are looking for is the Scosche Sat6 which can be found here at an attractive price; http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOSAT6

After you get the rivets out of the doors, you'll have to drill new holes for the adapters. It's pretty easy. Also be a good idea to get some foam backed tape (campers tape) from your local auto parts store to eliminate rattles between the adapters and the doors.

If you go to that webpage and put in the Hyundai Sonata, it comes back and says the Sat6 is not designed to work with the Hyundai.

Judging by the comments those adaptors also dont work with all speakers.

Im sure you can use them, adaptors like that are pretty universal, but I would want to test fit them or check with scosche before I ordered them.

The adapters I linked are the same adapters that Crutchfield sells for the Sonata http://www.crutchfield.com/S-vGlsr0qewwi/c...03200&I=142SAT6
Just trying to save you a few bucks through Car Domain. There are a lot of aftermarket parts for cars out there and not every site has updated info. Apparantly not even Scosche's own. I bought and installed them a couple weeks back. They work fine. You can mount either 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" speakers into them. I can post a pic in the next day or two if you're interested as I have some new speakers coming (Boston Pro60) that I'll be installing as soon as possible.
