OK, just noticed this red light flashing on top of the dash. Light is coming from what I thought was the light sensor for the auto light system. Figured it indicated the alarm was armed, but it did not go out when I unlocked and opened the door. Cannot find anything in the manual. What the **** is it?
Saab starting doing this in '97 all the time in order to deter thieves. My mom's Lexus does it, too. Apparently, the idea is to make them think your alarm is on all the time. Weird, I know.
actually that's what I do use it for !! finding the driver's door in the dark is pretty easy - a couple of feet past the blinking light in the garage ... ha ha
When you lock your doors, you automatically set the alarms. At least that is what I have been told. The little red LED should make the auto thief think twice before breaking into your car.... these folks prefer un alarmed vehicles.... adding a "Security by Smith & Wesson" stickers can be useful.
I noticed this the other night, my wife's gls and my LX were blinking in unison!!!! If I didn't know better I'd swear they were communicating with each other!@!!! Just a theory, maybe Hyundai has a deal with the NSA??????

Originally posted by kn5owa@Jul 24 2006, 11:02 PM It's a psych-war thing - keeps the amateurs and teeny-boppers from even thinking about stealing your car (you just hope).
Also, keeps alligators, elephants, etc. away - It actually works, in that regard - haven't seen a single one.
C'mon y'all - it's infrared transmissions going up to the Hyundai Satellite (that's why it's pointed up) which in-turn retransmits the data to your local DMV to tell them where you've been, how fast you were going, what lights you ran, when you weren't wearing your seatbelt, and the cars current location so they'll know where to mail the tickets to.
That's it - I'm taping aluminum foil over the top of mine ! And yes, my car is black ! :w00t:

Actually, you're not too far off. If you wreck your car and maybe hit somebody important, the government (or anybody with the equipment) can read out your computer and see if you've been a bad boy.
In other words, they can read your speed, braking & steering conditions, etc. at the moment of impact just like the so-called black boxes on airplanes.
Drive carefully - Big Brother IS watching YOU.
footnote: also - the insurance companies - there have been several stories in the local news about them using computer read-outs in accident investigations.
Yes my car is black---her's is gold!!! Last night they blinked like the lights they used to communcate in the movie close encounters. If the horns start beeping I'm disconnecting the battery!!! I wonder if Hyundai has a deal with seti?

Has anybody actually TESTED the Sonata's alarm system? Has anybody intentionally or unintentionally ever set off the car's anti-theft alarm?
