Exclamation Bad MPG in city. Good on highway

NF, 2.4L, 115k, 2006.
My sonata gets a very poor mpg in city. 240 miles with a full tank of gas in the city vs 415 miles on the highway. I mostly drive in the city. So a few weeks ago i traveled to NYC > Niagara Falls and NYC > DC and that's when I noticed that I get almost twice mpg on the highway.

Things i have done in past. Lucas lubricant and changed sparks. NO check engine light. Engine runs smooth. Anyone experienced the same problem? Any suggestions?

Since your gas mileage is fine on the highway it is unlikely to be anything other than the fact that its city driving. I have the 3.3, all highway i can get 30 mpg, if its straight city ill get around 16 mpg depending on how aggressive i am driving. Usually i get a mix around 22-24 mpg.

City mpg is almost ALL about driving habits. You cannot have good mpg and fast acceleration.

If you are interested in city mpg, accelerate more slowly, and avoid jackrabbit starts/stops. Drive like there is one gallon of gas in the tank and 30 miles to the next station.

Yep, I average around 18mpg in the city in my 07 I4. Typically get around 280 miles to the tank. I know I could do better, but don't really want to give up my 'spirited' driving style.

My 06 LX, I get about 220-240 for city driving. Mine does great on the highway.
