According to the NGK website, my 2006 GLS V6 calls for Laser Iridium IFR5E11. The 2007-2010 call for IFR5G11.
Why and what is the difference? Can I use the "G" in my 2006? Is it superior? Really confused... |

I could be wrong, but I believe the E is for the "V-groove electrode center". The G is just a fine wire.
You can clearly see the electrode differences on this pic ![]() NGK recommends the IFR5E11. Source

Source[/QUOTE] RiceR, do you know why the 2006 would call for something different than the 2007-2010. Same motor, right? I know they somehow got more performance in 2008 I think, but other than that I can't think why the difference, in particular between the 2006 and '07 which have no difference to my knowledge. |

riceR, you assume the E or the G lasts longer?
Anyone else know if I can use the G spark plug that is recommended for 2007-2010 V6 Sonata's in my 2006? ...and if so why would I? Any benefit? |

My only experience was on my old Corolla. I put the Denso iridium version in hoping for a little more of "everything". End result was all I got was a little better cleaning of my wallet.
I actually called Denso after I removed my plugs and found my ground electrode seriously worn after about 35k. Turns out that the "long life" versions that are installed in newer cars are either platinum or iridium BUT they also have a platinum or similiar tipped ground electrode. The "basic" ones don't have that and ground electrode wears out fast. Not sure if due to more concentrated spark or other. Tech also told me that on my stock motor I wouldn't notice any difference. If I was performance tuned and had a turbo or supercharger etc. then I might notice it. The G as you ordered has the iridium center and platinum ground so should last a long time. Performance improvements? Butt-o-meter not reliable, dyno before after, meticulously tracked mileage/gallons with no variations about only way. If your happy there are worse things to spend money on. The tech told me stick with the regular and change out every 20-25k and I'd probably get better overall results because of new plugs and wind up at same cost after 100k miles.
