I have a front end noise when I i go over a speed bump or hit a pot hole. It is kind of a crunching nise like something needs grease.
The Hyundai dealer charged me $54 to diagnose the problem and told me I needed both upper control arms replaced to the tune of about $700 to $800 dollars. They did force some grease in the bushings. I can get the parts for about $150. Anyone ever replaced these. The car only has 63000 miles. Input appreciated. Bill

I replaced mine. Its not hard if you work on cars and have the right tools. Took me about 2 hours or so. I will say I did bust one of my knuckles doing the job. 1st time my Sonata bit back haha. Good luck!

V33 - how does the control arm remove? I sorta see that you may have to press then pull out? Wondering what tools you need if it needs to be slightly compressed then pulled out.

GLS V6. It should be the same on all of them tho. I got the hole arms so I did not have to use a press at all. I lowered the shock without taking it apart so I din't need to use a spring compressor either. I would say have a set of air tools and a floor jack it makes the job much easier. It would have been a pain with hand tools. Otherwise when you get in there its a pretty direct job.

I also guessing you just unbolted the strut mount on top, lowered the shocks but didn't take it out of the cup and just sorta leaned it to the side? I do remember it was a B----tch trying to sit the strut in the cup, I think I used another set of jacks to push the struts up when I changed em. |

I have this noise and the Dealer diagnosed it as the Strut Mounts, didn't help. A Crunching Sawing, almost sounds like the tires are rubbing. I am expected back at the Dealership soon. Why would both upper arms wear at the same time? Could it be the Ball joint?

Thanks as I did not know that. I'm going with the tech isn't very good as he spent over a hour inspecting and pounding my front end. Why the pounding and aren't control arms part of a normal inspection, wouldn't he have caught this?
