Default Transmission oil sp3 alternative

For any of you that are looking into changing your tranny fluid for your car I strongly recommend valvoline maxlife trans oil. Not only is it $23 at Walmart in canada for a 5litre jug its shifts very quickly and smoothly seems to have the new car feeling again. Amazing fluid I also use it in my mitsu with the same results.

Well it does say that it meets SP-III requirements:

Recommended for use where DEXRON, DEXRON II, III and VI, Toyota T-IV and WS, MERCON®, MERCON® SP and LV, Allison TES 389, Nissan Matic-D, Matic-J and Matic-K, Honda Z-1 (except CVT), Mercedes NAG-1, Mitsubishi Diamond SP-II and SP-III and many others are required.

It says "Recommended for use"... nothing that it is SP-III spec.

You find most will say "compatable with"... but it is not made to SP-III specifications as called by Hyundai-Kia..

Ask Valvoline if you can use that stuff in an EQUUS or Genisis automatic transmission ..

You are correct, however why would they recommend this ATF for use in transmissions which require SP-III unless it meet those specifications? It would seem that they would only be opening themselves up for lawsuits if this ATF did not in fact meet those specifications.

Use it or don't use it, its up to you. if you want to buy that overpriced OEM fluid for piece of mind go ahead, I've already put my money where my mouth is and have 2 trannys on this fluid. IMHO the oem fluid isn't as good as the vavoline.

See section 8

I have used Valvoline Maxlife ATF now twice in my 2009 Sonata tranny with no problems. During my second fill , I installed a Magnefine inline filter on the return line to the tranny.

Yep, I've used it in 2007 sonata and also used the multi-import sp3 compatible Supertech fluid with good results. Pushing 200k miles on the 07 sonata limited. Both worked well.

Quite honestly, anything with the SP-III spec is much better than the OEM stuff... Like others, I've used the Castrol Multi Vehicle ATF and it works much better so I wouldn't doubt the Valvoline stuff to be better than OEM. Once I hit ~90k I'll do another drain fill with Wolf's Head Super Universal ATF since I have 6 quarts left over from doing the Saab. The compatibility list on the Wolf's head is redonkulous.

"Canada's DuraDrive™ MV Synthetic ATF offers true multi-vehicle performance, outstanding wear protection, and exceptional fluid life. DuraDrive MV Synthetic provides the frictional properties, wear protection and viscometrics needed by most major North American, Asian, and European automatic transmissions."

This ATF I will used next time. SP-3 compatible too.
