Default 2007 Sonata HID's causes car to stall out

So I have had HID's on my car since the purchase back in 2007. Until recently, approx 2 months ago, if I turned on my fog lights, my car would stall out. Then about a month ago, my only of my headlights started blinking and it went out. So I decided to replace all the lights with new kits.

So I just purchased 5000K 35w headlight and 25w(only ones they sell) fog lights for my car from HIDExtra. First sets were Xentec.

1. Headlights are H7 slim ballast
2. Fog lights are 881 regular ballast but still slimmer then the original big boys
**No relays**

So the car ran fine with them for about 2 days but if I turn them on while driving the car will stall out. I didn't have this problem before so I am trying to see has something worn out or what?? I didn't have relays before.

So what I went ahead and did was order relays for the fogs and headlights in hoping it would fix the issue. I am waiting for them to come in on Wednesday. Should this fix my issue? I never had them before(maybe I should have had them).

Its like the RPM's drop then engine skips then stalls. Car goes into limp mode and CEL stays on. Turn the car off and back on and limp mode goes away but CEL stays on until I let the car stay off for a while. Anyone ever had this issue.

Brand new battery from Advance Auto. I thought that was the original problem before getting the lights so battery cannot be the issue. Could it be alternator?? Car runs fine as long as I turn the lights on first then start it up but if I have to turn them on while in motion...stall out.

And a completely unhelpful answer. IIRC, several who use HID lights have the same/similar problem. Try searching on digital ballast; they seem to draw less power on startup.

I had the same issue happen on my 2007 I4 sonata, it turned out to be faulty HID ballast. The issue would happen randomly and i couldn’t figure it out one day I’m driving and i had the auto lights set to on as soon as i went under an over pass and it got darker the auto lights turned on the lights and the car died. I replaced the one ballast and I’ve never had the issue again i believe it was some sort of short inside the ballast causing it to make the electrical system in the car bug out. It’s been 3 years now since i replaced that faulty ballast and that issue never happened again. I have Hid's in my low beams high beams and foglights 3 seprate hid kits and no relays all the kits are hardwired to the car.

Ok, this is happening to me right now also. I installed my 55w slim ballasts from DDM over the weekend with the wiring harness/relay, thinking that would help any problem I might have. So far, every time I turn on my lights, they kill my car. So I let them warm up, then start the engine, and it stays going.

Second day of driving and I'm noticing a very distinct loss of power in the engine and missteps in the shifting. Also, my CEL is on, probably obvious, but also my ESC OFF light came on once and the button for ESC didn't do anything.

This is starting to scare me so hoping someone may know of a fix out there, and if I fried my car's brains or not. THANKS!

I'm lost. I had no problem for a good while. And now this. I think/how the harness makes a difference because that is why I got it. I hope I have a different outcome tomorrow when I install them. **** I hope its not the ballast because they seem so well made and the lights themselves look way better than my xentec lights. They are metal and fit tight and all.

I believe it may be the OEM connector. What ground is everyone talking about?

I have H11 HID's in my 2010 and have the same issue regarding occasional staling when I turn them on. It only happens if I turn them on with the car completely cold, and even then it only happens very rarely (maybe 5-10 times in the 8 months I've had them). I recently purchased and installed a relay:
Amazon Amazon

Unfortunately, it didn't seem to help the problem. It has stalled once since installation.

This relay installs to the battery and then goes between the power plug where the bulb goes to the ballast.

I watched an install video of another relay (
) that also had a component that had those parts but also another that went directly into the bulb.

FYI, I wouldn't buy the relay i linked to, insulation on it is a joke...

Just got off the phone with HIDExtra and they are sending me 2 new ballast. I asked for the big ones because I believe SLIM ballast or the devil of my car. I had the big ballasts installed for 4.5 yrs and never had an issue.

Switched to the slim when my first fog light went out and it lasted then I started getting very random stalls. Barely ever did it happen. So my headlight finally went to major flickering and I decided to replace the entire kits period. So I ordered 2 kits from HIDExtra.

The regular size kits are connected to my fogs and I put slims to the lows and guess what...fogs are working perfect (lows are disconnected). No stalling, skipping, sputtering...NOTHING. So I called and requested them to send me out some big ballast so I can go back to how I originally had my setup.

Called and explained my issue and they are sending me 2 big ballast(regular size) and told me to just keep the slims as backups. This is what I call customer service.
