Here's how to change the cabin filter on a 2010. Probably similar in other years also.
Before you start, empty the glovebox. Replacing the filter will involve opening the glovebox until its hanging upside down. Whatever is in it will dump out.
Start by removing this side cover. There is a slot for a screwdriver near the bottom. This is probably the hardest part. I would wrap the screwdriver shaft with tape so you don't mark the plastic. I didn't have to remove mine completely, I just pried it open, as you'll see in the pictures below. Be careful when you put it back in so that you don't break off the tabs.
Next reach in here and disconnect the shaft thing with the yellow collar. Its what keeps the glovebox from opening all the way forward.
Now bend the sides of the glovebox inward so the stops can move freely past their catches. This took a little bit of time, working a little on each side at a time. The left side is harder.
Then let the glovebox open all the way downward. Behind it you'll see this cover. Squeeze the 4 tangs and pull to release.
Now you can slide the air filter out.
Now check for debris that have fallen past the filter. Clean them out.
I replaced mine with an STP brand for $20. The dealer wanted $49.
As I mentioned be careful when putting the side cover back on. Since I was twisting/turning it back into place, the tabs weren't going directly in the slots. I pushed them with a screwdriver so make sure they didn't break off.
