2010 Cabin filter how-to

Here's how to change the cabin filter on a 2010. Probably similar in other years also.

Before you start, empty the glovebox. Replacing the filter will involve opening the glovebox until its hanging upside down. Whatever is in it will dump out.

Start by removing this side cover. There is a slot for a screwdriver near the bottom. This is probably the hardest part. I would wrap the screwdriver shaft with tape so you don't mark the plastic. I didn't have to remove mine completely, I just pried it open, as you'll see in the pictures below. Be careful when you put it back in so that you don't break off the tabs.

Next reach in here and disconnect the shaft thing with the yellow collar. Its what keeps the glovebox from opening all the way forward.

Now bend the sides of the glovebox inward so the stops can move freely past their catches. This took a little bit of time, working a little on each side at a time. The left side is harder.

Then let the glovebox open all the way downward. Behind it you'll see this cover. Squeeze the 4 tangs and pull to release.

Now you can slide the air filter out.

Now check for debris that have fallen past the filter. Clean them out.

I replaced mine with an STP brand for $20. The dealer wanted $49.

As I mentioned be careful when putting the side cover back on. Since I was twisting/turning it back into place, the tabs weren't going directly in the slots. I pushed them with a screwdriver so make sure they didn't break off.

You don't need to remove the side cover, just remove those rubber catch thingies from the inside of the glove box. They kind of swing out if you hold the glove box up a bit so that they are not holding up the glove box. After that the remainder is correct.

Don't need to remove the side cover? I always have... To remove that thingy in the photo that needs to be removed to let the glove box swing down. My 2008 has a handle molded into it for easy removal however... I think...

I always use blue masking tape to seal the crap filter in place since it never fits well. Doesn't matter what brand I buy--or OEM--it never fits well. It buckles on the sides.

Pardon moi for the lack of Shakespearean writing skills tonight...

This is how I remove that rod - directly from the OM.

Open glove box, remove 2 stopper thing, then flip the rod end off and let door hang down..

Possible to break the ears on the dash end cap if it get stuck and stupid.

Some have tray, some dont.. I typically never get the right filter the first time from parts, always some bug in the system.. 50/50 chance of right filter the first time.
