I have a 2007 4 cylinder sonata with the factory alarm. My car has been broken into twice, from the back passenger window. Shouldn't the alarm have gone off? I'm pretty sure they would have had to open the door? I forgot to look at the status of the locks when I went to unlock the door.

Are you locking it with the remote? I don't think the alarm arms if you use the lock switch inside the car.

If they just broke the window the alarm won't sound, but if they open the door I think it will.

That sucks i thought our factory alarm just went off if you open the handle from the inside after you lok the car, its pretty useless honselty, i ended up getting the viper alarm with the remote start if your cars been broken into more then once you should consider getting an aftermarket alarm

Yeah its pretty much useless. My old Sonata 2009 i4, Got stolen into by the back driver side, the littlle window at the back is where the thief broke into to open the door. What was funny is that the thief bled on my cloth seat. My wife and I didnt hear anything the night before. =( Oh well! A couple of months later we traded it in for the 2010 Limited V6.

But the alarm, if it was set, would have gone off when the burglar opened any of the doors to gain access to the vehicle. I don't see how that is useless, sure it isn't as responsive as one that responds to breaking glass but I'm not sure how that type of an alarm would have made that much difference.
