100k Mile Club

Rolled over the other day. Bought the car with around 20k on it in Feb 2008. Only thing I've done is tires and replaced the front rotors with EBC and pads with Akebono.

Maintanence:

51k tranny flush dealer
76k coolant flush dealer
84k replaced front rotors with EBC and pads with Akebono, bled all 4 wheels and put about 3/4 a pint back in reservoir
99k power steering fluid, Denso Iridium Spark plugs, PCV Valve, drain and fill tranny, radiator, Seafoam intake and Seafoam in gas tank.

I've been using Mobil 1 5W20 since around 54k and I have not had to add any oil. Engine is dry, tranny is smooth.

Maybe others can post who are in this 100k plus club what problems if any they've had and what major maintenance they have performed on their Sonata.

I intend to get a coolant flush at ~50K, tranny flush at ~105K. spark plugs at ~100K.

Serpentine belt and brake pads as needed, probably ~65K. Rotors should last the life of the car.

Surprised my battery is still going strong. They usually only last 3.5-4yr.

I use Hyundai recommended oil, whatever's on sale. I intend to keep the car 8-10 years, and 90-110K miles.

I'm shooting for cost of ownership of ~$1400 per year over 10 years, or ~$1750 over 8 years.

KC has 104K. Nothing exciting to report; normal maintenance, a set of tires and a new battery. She's due for brakes and a second tranny flush after I emigrate to Texas.

Change your battery if its OEM! I changed it After a year of having it on my car, that battery was three years old. Be proactive and don't let it die on you. Went to Wal Mart bought a 72 month I think, for around $62.00. Better warranty and better price than auto parts store, plus a 2-3 year free replacement can't beat it. It was an ever start. I wanted peace of mind knowing battery was good, 3 years on an OEM battery is pushing it. Why wait for it to die and strand you?

I only use the Hyundai oil filter cheaper than the autoparts stores filters. Oil changes average 10-12k miles. On this oil change I wasn't planning alot of miles after relocating to a new job so I used regular Mobil 1 5W20 instead of Mobil1 1 5W20 EP(Extended protection). Around 8k I will change oil and filter.

If you get new tires GET AN ALIGNMENT! Around 70k I had two replaced, and then the other two replaced around 76k miles. Well they slowly started wearing out on the shoulder, got an alignement but tires have some vibration issues because they wore wrong, once they start they can't be corrected. Old tires were wearing fine so I figured I didn't need it. I bought Summitomo Touring LST. Better grip then Michelens and handle better. Tread depth is still good a couple of them the shoulder may wear out prematurely.

PS changed my battery around 50-60k

Changed my battery before this past winter. 39K miles but car had been on the road for a little over 4 years. I did not want to get stranded/changing it in -40 degree weather.

At 3 years old, if a battery starts to crank slowly on a cold morning, change it immediately.

In all of my experiences, there was no prior warning just a dead battery or no start condition. On my bus, which is 24 volt and uses two 12 volt batteries, if one battery or both get weak you will hear it. Before I replaced my battery the car started fine but failed a load test.

...But when one lives in Louisiana one needs not replace his battery for 10 years, or when his car is immersed in ocean water (or in crude oil) whatever comes first.

Bob your Battery is 5 Years old. Drive into a WalMart today, only $69. Flush at 105K? Not banking on the 100K Power Train coverage I take it?
$1750 per Year for 8 Years of Ownership? Does that include Gas too? The reason I ask I am spending less than S75 per Year for Hyundai Factory Service. The BIG 30K Service is coming up. $214 and that is a A/T Flush/Oil Change and a Million Point Inspection. Time for a Coolant change too!
