I'm not certain if I am the first, but I just ordered KYB GR-2 front struts (#341476) and rear shocks (#349060) for my Sonata. Although KYB now makes the front struts, demand is pretty much non-existent and no one stocks them. I called around for price and the cheapest place was the Tirerack, but they had to special order them. Tirerack's customer service rep told me that for items like this, they generally don't buy them from the distributer until they have a confirmed order. My price was $170 for a pair of front struts and $118 for a pair of rear shocks. Shipping is $16. No tax. Estimated delivery could be up to 6 weeks.

Please update us when you receive and install them. I'd like to hear your driving impressions after they're installed.

I put a pair of the KYB rear shocks on about 3 weeks ago. I haven't had a lot of time to drive the car yet but will say the rattling sound from the suspension is greatly improved but not gone.

The rattling over small slow speed bumps is nearly gone, but strangely a little louder when one rear wheel is going over a bump in a corner. It is very difficult to tell but the remaining small rattling may be coming from the front struts now. With both the new and old shock out of the car it is clear the original has no control in the first 4 inches of movement which probably why it rattles. It was very easy to change out the rear shocks with simple hand tools make sure you have a torque wrench if doing it yourself.

I think with some soundproofing in the rear trunk area and the trunk speaker shelf, the rear suspension would be quiet as a church mouse. This may be my next project.

Overall, well worth $56/each and an hour and half of my time. The handling is much improved also as a fairly rough tug on the steering wheel feels much more controlled and the suspension settles quickly when turning a corner now.

I also will be interested to hear how the front struts help or not.

you can get monroes for 1about 120 a pair. from what I am told kyb and monroe buy them from Hyundai. So all of them are the same shock.

Really v33sonata? I was always under the impression each manufacturer made their own. According to what I read on several reviews and in different forums, the KYB GR2 seems to be better than the Monroe Sensa-Track. Several people commented that Monroes wear out quickly. In addition KYB is generally considered firmer, which suits my driving preference. But hey, I could be wrong. I'd love to save a buck if they are actually the same strut manufactured by Hyundai. If you could provide anything in writing that confirms what you heard on the street, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks

I used to work at checkers and pepboys. When I ordered a set of shocks for the Sonata I had to go into a system we had to special order them and both were listed as the same part number from the source. I spoke to the Hyundai tech about that a while back and he said that a few times that they got some shocks in were from Monroe and Hyundai were the same they even had the same cast stamping on them. I had contact monroe rep directly he told me that the shocks they have are not made by them and actually came from Korea. Also that the "sensa-trac" technology is not in the shock either.

The KYB struts and shocks arrived yesterday. My Sonata is a local shop now getting them installed. I'll be sure let you know if they make a difference.

Please do as I am also looking into getting the front and rear shocks. I hope they ride great because I want to install them with H&R lowering springs.
