Question

I downloaded my owner manual from Hyundai-usa.com; and if I read it right, it said change the oil and filter every 7500 miles????!!!!! Is this right? Also what kind of oil should I put in my car? Would 5w-30 be OK for Tennessee?

It should say every 3,750 miles.

I'm running on 5W-30 Mobil1 fulll synth in FL and do change every 5000, synthetic lasts longer and lubricates better. But 7500 looks like an error .
good luck with an oil change

The manual is the authority, straight from Hyundai, believe it!

The nominal interval is 7500 miles.... true (Page 5-4). However, severe usage interval is 3000 miles (Page 5-6) and most people fall under that.

Page 6-4: 5W-20 is recommended, 5W-30 is acceptable for all temperature ranges; 10W-30 is acceptable above 0 degres F.

Page numbers are out of my 05 owners manual.

It rarely gets below 15 F where I live, the differnce between 5w-30 and 10W-30 seems miniscule.

Most of my miles are highway, is this non-sever conditions? I'm also using 7500 mile Mobil oil becasue I put 1300 miles per month on my car. Would 5W-30 give me better fuel economy than 10W-30?

thinner oil should give you better fuel economy. and if you're using synthetic you can definitely go longer between changes. if you're not sure, just check the oil once in a while and make sure it still looks clean.

I use dino oil and change every 3k and to be honest, it is usually still pretty clean when the oil is changed.

It's good that you are buying oil that can last teh 7500 miles but what about the filter? Most filters will say on them only good for 3000 miles. But if your using the factory filters or a high performance filter that states it'll last for 7500 or mroe that go for it.

For a car that is driven 80% or better on a highway a 7500 mile oil change interval is perfectly fine. I have a 300,000 Toyota 4x4 and had a 150,000mile 02 Elantra that prove it. PLUS the owners manual states 7,500 miles is ok for normal duty situations. As for 5W-30 getting better fuel mileage over 10W-30 it will be minimal at best because at normal engine temps the oil is at the 30wt level so there is no gain. Now a 5W-20 should get you alittle better but I am not sold on a 20W oil for full time use, my 07 Sonata has 5W-20 but I think I will be using a 5W-30 synth for the remainder of its life.
