Default Headlight adjustment screws - stripped or using wrong tool?

Hi folks, newbie here, done some basic maintenance on 04 Elantra GT. I love this car and all its quirks (purchased used in 2006). Am trying to teach myself some basic maintenance tasks. Replaced headlight bulbs (low) lasnt night and I am wondering about the headlight adjustment screws as indicated in the manual....manual specifies phillips screwdriver, so I tried that, but it feels though I'm not catching anything and if I press down harder it just feels like I might be stripping the slots. I shone a flashlight into the access hole on the driver's side and it doesn't look like a phillips slot at all, though I could barely see it; wondering if it was stripped, or if I am just using the wrong tool. If it is stripped, is there another way of performing this adjustment?

Also - on the driver's side I tried to remove the headlamp in a desperate attempt to access the bulb holder without having to remove the battery (they don't give you a lot of room there, do they?) - removed the top two bolts - But there was one bolt/pin/screw I couldn't find (much less get to) Can anybody tell me where it's located and how to get to it?

Thanks very much!

this is the screw you are looking at - I do not remember exact placement, but it looks same.
