Hyundai Lantra 98 Windows Problem

Hy there, just got a second hand hyundai lantra 1998 and found out a bit too late that the driver's window won't close properly. It goes up slowly than bends and doesn't close completely. We have to push it with our hands. The passenger's window also is very slow in closing. Is there anybody there who had the same problem? And how did you fix it? My husband tried to open the door panel but could not see any obvious mechanical problem. Please help, don't really want to change the whole door!!

i had a similar problem and the bolts on the inside were loose and letting the window move around... worth taking a look at atleast

Hi There,

I had a Hyundai Lantra that I traded in last week, 98 Silver, and the drivers window occasionally froze on the up. I found that if you just hold your finger down it does decide to go up in the end. Once or twice I had to wind down and then back up. I did improve the problem by taking the door off and lubricating the motor mechanism but it needed doing again before long. Try checking the mountings, as previously suggested, for loose screws or bolts. Don't go mad tightening them but check to see whether or not they are overly loose. You can take the door face off easily but watch out for the wires connecting to the window switches, you will need to remove the plug to make it easier to get access to the door (however this means having to re-connect the switch before you can test, unless you short the connections).

Just on the plus side, I had my Lantra for nearly 2 years and they are damned good car for the money. They might be grp9 insurance but the only repairs I ever did on the car were caused by something else damaging it or were general wear&tear things as you would replace on any other car. I'd almost say they were bullet-proof, if you treat them well.

Just out of interest, where abouts did you pick this one up??

Dude i'm sitting with the same problem...all you need is a new window regulator. It gets worn out over the years...nothing caused it, just need to be replaced!

i've got the same issue at the moment too, but i left it and left it kept puttin it off, and earlier this evening it packed in completely and the window disappeared away inside the door frame, had to get a mechanic mate (whilst the hail stones battered down) to remove the door panel and rescue the window, its now held in place with sellotape and gale force winds outside so i'm hoping with fingers crossed i still have a window tomorrow so i can get a new regulator and get things sorted.

so if the original poster still has not resolved the issue, i would personally recommend doing so before you find yourself in my position!

as a side note, anybody know where in the UK I can purchase a new regulator at the cheapest possible price?

Had a similar problem with my 1996 model lantra.

It doesn't have power windows but eventually I started getting a problem whereby upon winding the window up, it seemed to fall forward out of it's rails. The first time it happened I didn't even realise, and by the time I had wound it all teh way up it was just out to fall outwards onto the road as I was driving.

I found that this was a combination of issues though. The black glue that is used to hold the window into the frame had let go, so it was falling out of it's guide. I re-glued it in though and even though that attachment is solid now, the windown still tends to push forward (ie lean toward teh front of the car) as I start winding it up. When this happens the rear of the window comes out of the rubber guide. Most of the time it goes back in place properly as the window approaches closing, but not always.

I've inspected the window mechanism and there seems to be excess play in component that slides up and down main guide inside the door. I haven't seen any screws I can simply tighten up at this stage but I haven't investigated too thoroughly at this stage.

I have the same window regulator problem but cannot remove the door panel for a look see, I have removed all the screws i can see but the panel will not come away! can anyone tell me what I am not doing right?
