Thanks, I will be done with this project by Friday, but depending on the outcome, this lady may make this a regular thing. That is, the me sewing stuff for her part. Which is great, I need the money, but I hope that next time I have more time!

Well, after a crazy night of (literal) blood, sweat and tears, I FINALLY completed the project.

It's not that making pillows in and of itself is that difficult. The difficult part was that someone decided that using paper-backed silk (and having to tediously peel the paper off after multiple ribbons had been sewn on) would be quick. Plus hand stitching the bottoms, having to poke through thick equestrian ribbons matched with thin silk...what a nightmare!

I called in "sick" to work today because I was so delirious, I knew I wouldn't be able to drive nor perform adequately at work. Plus, I still had some other part of the project left to do. Doing the math, I actually made more money by finishing the project (she wouldn't have paid me in full if I'd left part of it unfinished) than going to work at my minimum-wage job.

The good news is, when I went to deliver them, she LOVED them and told me that they turned out much better than expected. She also paid me decently and gave me future projects, with a starting hourly rate that is higher than any I've ever made in the past.

The pillows and wall hangings I sewed are going to an equestrian convention in Colorado and given as gifts to certain people who were integral in helping this Olympian who, sadly, passed too soon. I also learned tonight that she was not from a privileged background, but was a firefighter and relied on her sponsors to achieve her Olympic dreams.

So, as difficult as it was (and with a too-short deadline) I really felt like a part of something greater, so it was worth it. Plus now this lady has me sewing pillows as a second job, pretty much, and later we may move into wallets, purses, and other items.

After leaving her house, I picked up my stepkids and we've just had a nice evening with McDonald's, Sims, and homemade pumpkin pie.

Glad to hear your side job is working out. Hopefully you get some more time on your next project. Since you like cars you may also consider doing some custom stuff for cars in the future. My buddy was into hotrods and classic car restoration and those guys pay a pretty penny for high quality upholstery and interior fabric work.

Boy, Zak hit that nail on the head! I have a friend that entered (and won Best of Show) at the Concord de Elegance a few years back. You wouldn't believe the sums of cash he paid for the interior and carpet on that Pierce Arrow.

That degree in fashion design has taken a unique turn, wouldn't you say? For the better?

Had the day off, but tried to accomplish some purchasing for another set of projects I am doing for this lady. I also decided I would return a table, folding chairs and dishes that my grandma lent us on Thanksgiving.

Over in Tigard, I stopped at the Fred Meyer to quick charge, but they were out of service. Not only that, but non-EVs were parking in front of it. Had to use the L2 charger instead, and sat there for an hour since that is what I pay for. Oh, there was some lady blocking it at first, but I actually witnessed a Fred Meyer employee TELLING her that she was blocking a charger, and before I even said anything! I should have given him a medal!

She moved, but VERY slowly (she was old, and her car was full of trash). In fact, while I was waiting for her to move, someone honked at ME...why, I don't know. It was not like I could move. Anyway, I finally got the spot and was there for a while. My grandma had given me some red pepper jam, so I bought some cream cheese and crackers to go with it...YUM. Ended up with a tad on the seat, but Tide Pen came to the rescue.

After that, I had one last stop for fabric, then headed home. That's when I had to go get pizza with a few miles of range left, thanks to my husband not letting me take the Xterra or do it himself.

This whole limited range business would make me nervous. Of course now I am only commuting 10 miles each way all city so I could in theory drive back and forth to work all week on one charge. I'm just not ready to accept this technology as normal.

That's fine. It has become normal for me. However, as I've said before, if I didn't live in a city, this car would not be for me.

Toyota decided not to sell his small electric car because they say the market is not there and people are not ready to pay such a high price.
