Can you get the EGR valve cleaned out first and foremost. Then have the fuel lines check for metallic swarf to see if your fuel pump is failing. Then have them check to see what the fuel pressure is when it cuts out. Also if it is cam and crankshaft sensor -check the cam timing

Yep... you are right in 99% of your comment.

Rick sent me a PM just a couple of days ago. His problems were with both the crank and cam sensors. Also, had to replace two injectors and a pressure valve.

I didn't read through all the posts, but I have a similar occurence every now and then.

When I start the Can, the revs stays lower than normal and does not want to drive. But, if I wait untill the revs picks up which you can hear, the Can is fine and I can drive.

Apparently it is the oil pressure sensor that picks up when the oil pressure is low and contain the revs untill the desired pressure is reached. It is a type off fail safe mechanism. When the Can reaches it service date, it is prone to do it more often.

Does that make sense?

While it makes sense (and it is supposed to behave like that) is that when the oil pressure drops (or is not reached to certain level), the ECM triggers into "safe mode", preventing accelerations and other situations that can damage the engine.

What is not normal, is the oil pressure not getting up as soon as the engine starts. When you say this behavior is more often when the car reaches service date, I would presume your oil level is dropping slowly and thus, causing this situation more frequently.

Have you checked your oil level? If its normal all the way untill the next service date, I would check on oil quality, then suspect oil pump. This situation is not normal and should be fixed.

Ross, what happens by me is that I start it in the morning, let it idle a bit, then pull it out of the garage and switch it off. 10 minutes later I start it up to go to work, yes here in SA we do not have public transport suitable for a normal person, she does that. Idle at 500rpm, few seconds, then gets up to normal revs and gearbox operation. But whilst at the 500rpm there is no way in **** it will pull away, like the post started. But I know this now, so I wait until it gets to the normal idle speed. But it does it very intermittently I must say.

Hi I'm a newbie from Aruba. My Terracan (CDRi 2.9 2004) has a similar problem. First the airco stops and shortly after that I experience a powerloss. For a few seconds the engine stays in idle. So I first replaced the brake light switch (35 USD). The problem still occurs, but after the airco stops I'm still able to rev up to 2000 rpm. What next?...

I have had similar problems with loss of power after having replaced the pump and reconditioned the injectors.

My vehicle initially broke down with white smoke from the exhaust and total loss of power. Diesel specialist informed me from the metal shards in the diesel tank indicated what he has found to be a common fault with the Delphi pumps, the cam inside the pump is of inferior quality metal and starts to break up hence metal in my tank.

The pump was renewed and injectors reconditioned which I thought was the end of the problem, wrong!!!!!

Because we had removed the radiator to get better access to the pump, when we rebuilt it I ran out of coolant and forgot about this. On testing the car I found that I could get to 60 mph then it would lose power and then I was able to drive if I kept the vehicle under 2000 revs.

I read with interest the posts on hear and no one has really found a problem to the same fault. Well my fellow Terracan owners, I hope I have.

There is a post on here about the car overheating and the ECU restricts the fuel if the coolant level is low, Eureka.
I remembered about running out of coolant, so after my can took about two litres of coolant mix the problem has totally disappeared.
