I just purchased a 2013 Azera without the tech package. I've gotten everything to work except my iPod. I have tried two different iPods, my iPhone, and three different iPod/iPhone cables. I have not tried the Hyundai cable. When I use an AUX cable, all I get is static. The system will not recognize a thumb drive that has .mp3 files on it either. My iPhone will stream music successfully. I've searched several forums, but have not found any instances where those ports do not work at all. Any ideas?

I have a number of flash drives that wouldn't work, despite FAT32 formatting, a mix of brands, and sizes, and proper folder hierarchy based on the manual, yet with the Hyundai Cable and my iPod Touch connected, everything works perfectly. Looking through posts it appears your mileage WILL vary. Maybe the dealer could "demonstrate" what you are doing "wrong". Putting them on the spot like that can get action sometimes.

use the Hyundai combo USB/Audio cable. It is necessary for all recent Hyundai's with NAV. (Stock USB's to Apple will not work) A 3.5mm cable should work for audio only. Some users reported that they had issues until they made sure that the end was firmly plugged into the car. A properly FAT32 formatted USB drive should also work with MP3 files. If this is not the case, see your dealer.

Thanks for the information and advice. I'll be taking the car to the dealer on Wednesday to have wheel locks installed. I'll ask them to let me try a Hyundai cable and see if that works.

You definitely need the Hyundai cable. I have an older 30gb iPod Video that works, but has issues with the battery so I am looking for a replacement to leave in the car permanently. Not sure which models are 100% compatible as the manual is very vague when explaining the compatibility issues. I have found that a flash drive works very well, but of course does not support playlists. You could create a folder and place songs in the folder that you would have in a playlist, but that isn't very efficient use of space on the flash drive. Can anyone definitely say which models of iPods that they have has success with? The issue I have seen with my older iPod is it will not always resume playing where it left off previously....it wants to go back to the first song on the iPod.

USB Music Formatting Might not help the iPod problem, but could get you going with a USB drive anyway.

Update: I formatted and tried three different thumb drives to no avail. The dealer was open today, so I stopped by there and asked if I could try one of their special cables. The system recognized the ipod, the ipod played songs, the songs and artists displayed on the head unit, but the only sound I got was a click about once a second. That's the same sound I received when I tried the AUX cable only. We tried another Hyundai cable and got the same clicking sound.
The service department wasn't open, so they're going to look at it when I take the car in Wednesday for another minor issue. I hope this one turns out to be an easy fix. |

Latest Update: I was finally able to get my car back to the dealer. They worked with a Hyundai technical center to try to diagnose this problem. They decided that the USB/AUX port module might be bad, so a new part was brought in over-night. They replaced the part today, but there's still a problem. When playing an iPod or iPhone now, we get some sound, but it's not very loud and it produces a lot of static. So, Hyundai is going to ship a new head unit to the dealer and they hope to have it in by the middle of next week. I'll post another update with the results.
