Default MPG Rewards Card

Hey everyone,

I've recently went to my Hyundai dealer for service and they submitted my 2nd reimbursement claim. I already own a Hyundai MPG rewards card. I received an e-mail stating I should be getting another card in the mail in 7 to 10 business days.

I thought that every time I got reimbursed, it would get added on the same card. I was a bit confused so I e-mailed Hyundai. Now they are telling me that every time I get a reimbursement, it'll be on a new card.

Here's what they said:
"You will receive a new debit card every time you put in for a subsequent reimbursement claim. Once the funds on your card are depleted, simply destroy the card."

Does this sound right? Anyone else have another card? I find it vary wasteful to keep issuing new cards.

Many Thanks
Evan

The last time I had my car at the dealer for service, the service advisor put in a reimbursement request for me. I later received an email asking me to go to the Hyundai reimbursement website to confirm my request. At the website, I was given the option to get reimbursed for the reported miles ($17) or wait until I accumulate more miles. I chose to wait.

I had around 42K miles I think when I submitted my first request and did not have to verify anything through email, just mileage read from the dealer who then submitted it.

Default What I wrote Hyundai President & CEO about Rewards program

Dave Zuchowski:

After getting my car serviced on 4/21/2014, I asked for my mileage reimbursement. Dealership doesn't offer so I reminded myself to ask. Today, 5/3/2014, the "Rewards" card arrived. I would have preferred to be reimbursed by the dealership the same day. I would have preferred to have gotten a check today. Instead, I got a MasterCard so I have to shop to use the "reward" of having bought a car with deliberately overstated mileage. Actually, if I even got the mileage that is currently promised, I'd be happy. The mileage improvement with "eco" cough cough is nothing. The main reason I bought the car was the promised mileage.

It took 3 stabs to activate the card online. Finally, the computer screen flashed a message that the card was already activated. Whoever programmed this menu wasn't thinking - hey, say it worked. I am computer literate.

I had to fill out forms to sign up for your program. The letter with card arrived at my house but I still had to cough up my VIN to activate the card. That meant finding a document with the VIN - in the car, in my pile of records....That was a hassle.

After I successfully activated the card, I had to sign the card so I can't give it to someone else to use. You've limited my use to how I want to spend my money an additional way.

And, finally...... like those lousy gift cards that expired if left unused, this "Rewards" card expires in two years. You have got to be kidding? I think you are actually breaking a statute somewhere because this is so abusive it caught the eye of media everywhere. I think in a court of law that this "Rewards" card might be construed as a gift card and be subject to the same anti abuse laws.

posted here was info from National Conference of State Legislators dated 1/17/2014 about gift card and gift certificates statutes and legislation. In 2009, Congress passed the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act, which set consumer protections for gift cards based on many state laws. The law provides that gift cards cannot expire within five years from the date they were activated and generally limits inactivity fee on gift cards except in certain circumstances, such as if there has been no transaction for at least 12 months. The federal law creates a floor for regulation and leaves room for state regulation on redeeming gift cards for cash and unclaimed property provisions.

You should apologize for treating your customers this way.
