Drives 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

I've owned a 2013 Santa Fe 2.4 for exactly 31 days. Besides the fact that it has NEVER gotten the estimated gas mileage, my wife can't see around the vehicle very well. So, she doesn't feel very comfortable or safe when backing up or changing lanes. We are expecting our first child in a few months, so safety is an absolute must!!!
We took it in today to exchange it for an Sonata. Since all she's ever driven was a car instead of a crossover or SUV, she knew she would be comfortable driving it instead. We found one we liked and it actually priced $1000 less than our original Santa Fe. Long story short, we put a large amount down for the Santa Fe in our initial buy. After only having the vehicle for only one month, we are basically being told that we've lost around $8000 dollars in this exchange. So our $28,000 Santa Fe will only be good to exchange for a $19,900 Sonata. Has anyone had any experience with bringing a car back after such a short period of time? If so, how much money, if any, were you out? Is it unfair to think that there should be some sort of "even" swap in a case like this? |

From what I understand you lose anywhere from 20-30 percent of the list price of a new vehicle once you drive it off the dealer's lot after purchase. That is one of the big negative's to purchasing a new vehicle, the significant initial depreciation of the vehicle.

You cant bring a car back, but its value used should still be high as a new model and low mileage. If you paid $28K + TTL would expect you to be able to get a car that comes out to about $24-25 as long as your car is in showroom condition. Call around to other Hyundai dealers or shop other brands, there are other great cars out there comparable to Sonata. Places like Carmax also do buybacks without having to buy anything and their quotes are fair.
