I thought i'd look up a Chevy Cruze forum to see how buyers were liking their cars or what problems they may be having and after reading several threads I could only think, "I'm thankful I chose the Elantra!"
Other than gripes about MPG's not being what they expected (just like some elantra owners), I was reading threads about several people with rear main seals leaking, and people actually saying the entire 2012 turbo with auto trans line up has rear main seal issues! Problems with shiftpoints on the transmission,There were also several complaints about random grinding noises, odd a/c noises/operation, interior door handle fitment, electrical "gremlins", axle seals blowing out, and even an apparent widespread problem on the 2011 Cruze driver seat that apparently has a defective design that causes it to clunk around when making turns. again, i'm thankful I chose an Elantra! ![]() Anyone find any other models with reviews like the Cruze is getting? |

I've said this before but I think it bears repeating since you brought it up. Forums are a magnet for car problems and that is why I think they are a terrible indicator of overall reliability. Why? Because almost nobody jumps onto a car forum to say, "Hi...my name is _______ and my Sonata is running great!"
I'm sure if the Cruze owners came in here they'd be convinced that every Sonata pulls left, every Santa Fe grinds on the 2-3 upshift and every Elantra's taillights rubs paint off the fender. And as we all know, some people do have these problems but you can't paint every car with the same brush. Just my two cents on the issue.

I agree with what you've said for the most part. The little issues with my Elantra and from what I can tell in general on this board, seem to pale in comparison to what I saw on the other forum though. The stuff i'm reading about on the Cruze is widespread problems much more problematic than a potential for a paint chip around the tail light.
Still glad I chose the Elantra ![]() Just my .02 |

Oh **** yeah, I've gone to other forums to see what people say about their new cars. I've also seen people say they were happy with their 40+MPG with the Cruze Eco. It's not scientific, by any means.
Anyhoo, I do see people come to this forum and say how happy they are with their Elantras. Myself included. |
