These 2 vehicles seem to be quite similar in size and purpose. How do you chose between them. Looking at the prices from jacksaysyes.com web site, the SF ranges from $17,100 to 29,400, and thw Tucson from $16,300 to 23,200.
What made you pick one over the other?

The older Santa Fe was close in size to the Tucson but the new Santa Fe is alot bigger with an optional 3rd row of seats. Even the older Santa Fe still has more room behind the 2nd row than the Tucson.

Dear MS,

To pull a trailer, or not to pull a trailer...that is the question. T'whether it is nobler to make the tail wag the dog, the Santa Fe is longer, heavier, and has a higher Gross Vehicle Weight Rating than the Tucson.

Think of the Tucson comparable vehicles as Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4

Think of the Santa Fe comparable vehicles as Ford Excape and Honda Pilot.

real simple difference..

Tucson is a compact SUV class

Santa Fe is a mid-sized SUV class..

Santa Fe has a bigger engine, and is bigger in pretty much every aspect, including cargo room and seating...

we chose our Tucson because a) we only needed it for picking things up at the home centers that we couldnt fit in our tiny little compact cars we use do have and B ) well, that was really the only reason.. my wife deliberated a lot between the 2, but ultimately decided that the Tucson was cheaper new than the Santa Fe was, and we got a good deal (19k for the SE).. plus she liked the fact that the glass opened in the back as well as the whole back.. the Santa Fe only has the whole back open... plus she was excited to have a V6 since she was used to her terrible 91 cavalier.. (even if it was only a 2.7L)

Towing would not be a consideration. I have an old, but strong F250 Diesel for all towing duties.

I am not really in the market, but you never know when someone might sideswipe your car, and
boom" you are in the market for a car.
Planning and anticipating is much of my job, and it rubs off into my personal life.
Please kee pthe comments coming.
