Hi,
My auxiliary fan (radiator fan?) of my Hyundai Getz is not working. I tested the fan by directly connecting it to the battery and it work. Can anybody help me how to fix it. My car shop is about 10kms from my home and I can't get there without overheating. Thank you very much. MyPrime |

There are two radiator fan relays in the engine compartment relay box. One relay works with the engine temperature and the other one works whenever the air conditioner is on.
If the fan motor is OK, it means it is not getting the signal to start. Have you tried with and without the air conditioner working? If neither condition starts the electric fan, you should check all the fuses including those from the AC system. Another thing that may be affecting this is the ECT sensor (engine coolant temp sensor). I believe this is has something to do in your case, since you are overheating in very short distances driven (10 miles). Have you scanned the car for error codes? Other things to check is the grounding points for the radiator fan.

I think its the ECT sensor (engine coolant temp sensor) because when the AC is "on" the fan works. So in the meantime I have to use the AC everytime I use the car.
Thanks iananita, I'm thinking of that too. |

See the attached pages from the service manual. They state the location of every single sensor in any petrol based GETz. Let me know which engine your Getz has, and I can send you the service manual pages on how to test the ECT sensor.

Yes, they all have a thermostat. But this is a thermo-mechanic device and has no part in telling the ECM on when to start or stop the electric fan. It just works letting the coolant run in engine once certain temp is reached. It helps getting to "working" temp faster. BTW, if your coolant level is too low, it may lead into wrong readings from the ECT, thus failing to start the auxiliary fan when needed. Here is what you need for the 1.1 engine.
